Treatment for Macular Degeneration
Macular degeneration
is the deterioration of the macular, the center part of the retina. In a healthy eye, the macula focuses central vision, allowing people to do the everyday tasks of life, like driving, reading, and recognizing faces. When macular degeneration occurs, there is a severe loss of vision as this important part of the eye begins to fail.
While there is no cure for the disease, David B. Brill, O.D., P.A.
provides treatment that can slow the deterioration process, and in some cases, improve a patient's vision.

About Dry Macular Degeneration
Dry macular degeneration is age-related degeneration not involving leakage of blood or serum. This form of macular degeneration is connected to the development of yellow deposits beneath the macula, called drusen. These deposits thin and dry out the macular, which causes a loss of vision.
About Wet Macular Degeneration
Wet macular degeneration describes the development of abnormal blood vessels that grow beneath the macula and damage it. The damage is typically caused by bleeding or leaking from these abnormal vessels. As the blood or fluid leaks, the macula bulges out of shape and a loss of vision occurs. Patients with wet macular degeneration may experience dark spots in the center of their field of vision. The condition may also cause straight lines to appear to be curved. Many patients do not experience either of these tell-tale signs, so patients at high risk for macular degeneration should see their optometrist regularly.
